I use this polymer sealant product called 5 Star Shine. I've had it on my car for 7 months and it still works just as good as it did when I first applied it. I only need to wash it with water and a wash glove. This stuff has outlasted every other polymer I have tried. www.5starshine.com

There is a good thread with alot of info on www.nicoclub.com
Do a search using 'star shine' and the thread will come up....

I washed my buggy Sunday. Then I put Meguiar's Cleaner/Wax on her. Then, as I was rummaging around in my "wax box," I stumbled across some Meguiar's Step 3 Deep Wax. Forgot I even had it. So I put a coat of it on. WOW! It knocked my socks off. It gets my vote from here on out.

One more thing, now that I think about it.

I'm not so sure I would want to use a wax that lasts for a long, long time. Am I crazy? Maybe.

However, one of the joys of owning my car (an '84 380SE) is washing her off and polishing her beautiful lines.

A Sunday afternoon is well-spent and pleasurable if I have a beer or two while washing and waxing the car. That's fun, with a capital "F."

color is a factor

An earlier post stated that color was the determining factor in which wax/polish is the best and I tend to agree. My '86 300E is a deep teal-green and NOTHING touches Meguairs Gold Class on that car! The finish looks a foot deep, and this car is 17 years old. But, when using Meguairs Gold on my silver 500SEL or my white C220 the results were less than remarkable to say the least. So, what is the best for the lighter color finishes???

KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED

February 04 Meguiars is introducing a new wax called NXT TECH WAX! It is a polymeric wax that is absolutely amazing. It hides light swirl marks and cobwebs and leaves the paint looking wet. It's polymeric so it should provide excellent protection as well.

I've had a chance to sample the product and it's Awesome! Here's pic taken after application:

I've been using the P21S system (paint cleanser + carnauba) and am happy with the results. IMO, compared to Zymol:
- less effort
- comparable results
- lasts longer

I use Meguiar Quick Detail / Final Inspection in between waxes, and occasionally, Zymol Field Glaze works great too.

I've been using Meguiar's Gold Class for a while now. It gives a great wet-look, deep finish on my smoke silver (702) R129. It also gives an amazing finish on my mother's brilliant silver (744) SLK (which has a great factory paint job). It is far superior to Zymol (either the estate glazes or the liquid cleaner wax). I also find it very easy to apply and remove, despite the lack of instructions. Any tips on application?

placo1: tell us more about the forthcoming NXT tech wax from meguiar's. How and what did you learn of it? It looks fantastic on your 500E.

I use Meguiars products.
#15 Clear coat conditioner- to clean minor contaminants off the paint. Smells like baby powder, because it is in there, helps "fill"in areas of the paint, making very smooth, readying it for polish.
#2 Fine Cut Cleaner- good for small abrasions, scuffs, cleaning door jambs, etc. cuts just enough cut without a buffer.
#20 Polymer- this is the polish/sealant, easy on/off, without a bunch of the chemicals like NuFinish.

I prefer to do "steps" to polishing the car, rather than using an all in one product. Better results this way.

Meguiars has an entire line of products OTHER than what you see at pepboys etc. (ther you just see mainstream products) You have to go to an Automotive paint store to see the entire line. Very similar to the 3M line. Been using it for 15 years.

An update on this thread. I've been using Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax for a while now and it is better than anything I've previously used. It is very easy to apply and remove. Between waxes I have used the NXT Booster Spray, again with very satisfactory results. This weekend I applied NXT Tech Wax and then went over the car with Final Inspection; the result was better than I've ever seen before. I'm thinking about buying a gallon of Final Detail (it is quite expensive here in the UK); will this make a big difference?

Final Detail is an amazing product. It should only be applied a few hours after the wax has been applied to let the wax set up properly (true of any quick detail spray). It will leave the surface slicker and much glossier than with just the wax. It adds the pop that takes the finish to the next level. It also makes it easier to keep the paint clean since it is so slick. I'm surprised it costs that much more their? In the US it is the cheapest quick detailer available and it is IMHO one of the best. If you can get it and don't mind spending the extra money I would go for it. A gallon should last about 8 months or longer depending on how often you drive the car and detail it. Note: Meguiars is changing the name of Final Detail to Last Touch. It has also been reformulated to work better and smell better, not sure on either of those though.

Thanks placo1. Having seen your 500E I would take your word as gospel on matters of detailing. That is just the reply I needed to tip me into spending US$35 (for that is the cost over here) on a gallon of Final Detail (still available here under that name). I'll let you know the results.

What is the minimum time you would wait before applying Final Detail over NXT?

Thanks again.

Wonder why we can't get it and you can . Take advantage I guess! The price is nearly double what it costs here, have you tried searching for another source locally?

As far as applying it over NXT it really depends on how the car is being used. If it's a daily driver I would apply Final Detail (or any detailer) at minimum 3 hours after applying NXT. If the car isn't driven daily I would wait 24 hours before applying anything over it. According to Meguiars the NXT needs time to polymerize on your car and using another product can hinder the process. You may also note that the car looks better after 24 hours of applying NXT, weird but I've seen it. Let us know what you think after trying Final Detail, always like to get others opinions.

I have definitely noticed that NXT looks better after 24hours or even after a wash. This time I applied Final Inspection about an hour after NXT. There was a marked improvement, what you earlier called "pop". The car is a daily driver (25k miles a year) and I clean it in the lane behind my house, so I will give it 3 hours next time. I will buy some Final Detail today and let you know how I get on. Thanks!

Make sure you are differentiating between Final Detail and Final Inspection--- two different products. I personally don't care for Final Inspection, but haven't tried Final Detail.

I bought a gallon of Final Detail and it arrived on Tuesday 9 June. Since then I have not had the chance to wax the car with NXT. However, the most recent wax was only the previous Friday 4 June. So I washed off the car and had a go with the Final Detail. Excellent! It adds real gloss and depth and seems to smooth out the finish, hiding many remaining imperfections. I have since used it a further two times to remove dust and pollen and both times it has left the car looking great. I'm really looking forward to doing a proper job on it.
