Clayed and waxed my 1991 300E this weekend using Zymol Vintage. The pics are a little grainy due to the overcast, but trust me in person the paint looks like it's dripping off the car. Not bad for a 15 year old car with original paint.

Oh, and I used the $16.99 Meguiar's clay kit from Pep Boys.

Wink Best wax is Zaino --- 2 stage treatment

I use Zaino wax and prewax products on all four of my cars and it is hard to beat ... also very easy to use. The first coat is a prep -- just leave it on; then apply the wax. When hazed, wipe off ..... beautiful job.

Did you really spend $1,800+ for Zymol Vintage! If it's unlimited refills, how about I purchase some from you ?!

I use Poorboy's EXP and Poorboy's Natty's Blue. However, I'm also a pro detailer so 99% of the finish is in the prep work.

With my experience, I could probably get the same shine and depth out of some crappy Turtle Wax that the overpriced overrated stuff like Zaino.

I didn't see anyone using Mequiar's No. 6. Any opinions on it?

Its a good wax, works wonders on light oxidation. Light oxidation is just dull paint, if your oxidation is cloudy then you need something stronger and an orbital. There are more expensive ones that do abetter job but for price and ease of use this cleaner can't be beat IMHO.

If a guy waxes twice a year and the paint is over 6 yrs. old, can it be assumed that oxidation occurs and you need part cleaner and a wax?

You can assume that as long as the paint doesn't look cloudy. Also you'll probably get even better results if you clay bar that car first before using this no. 6.

I really like using Liquid Glass also. I first used it working in a body shop at a large dealership in Western MA in the late 1970's. The LG was used with a buffer and the shine was simply amazing. I have also used Zaino with good results. Now that I am buying a Cyclo dual head polisher it should make it faster for me to do my three vehicles. This is a touchy subject. I like Canuba wax also but still shudder from memories of spending hours to remove it as a teenager from our car. With a buffer it would have been a snap. Multiple layers of LG give us a nice deep shine. Any wax that helps protects the paint finish is a good thing. For folks not wanting to spend a lot of time even NuFinish, or some of the other waxes is better than no wax at all. As a side note while a black car is cool to look at black shows the most dirt. So they seem to wash their cars more often. I like white and similar colors like Ivory that hide dirt better. John

Thumbs up What car wax do I use?

I use Zymol's Vintage wax on my wife's black 300E and my 1987 ford mustang all orginal paint single stage dove grey 1K. There are lots of good brand carnuaba paste waxes out there. The real secert is too prep the paint befor you apply the wax.

Zaino wax approach

That is why Zaino is so good; the first treatment is a prep which is left on and the second one (the real wax) is very easy to use and multiple coats can be added for a deeper shine ..... BC
