Badge Application

I recently bought a Chrome TDI badge for my girlfriend's '99 VW Beetle TDI (only $12 from the dealership!), and I'm wondering what preperation is required to apply it. I forgot to ask the guy at the dealership this.
The badge has three separate letters with adhesive backing, not sure if they're metal or plastic, but they have a chrome finish.
Obviously I will clean the application area, and remove the wax (Dawn dish soap?), but is there anything else I should do to make the letters stick better? Thanks.

Give the adhesive on the trim a try, but if it seems "weak" after a day or so of setting, I'd get some 3M Trim Adhesive at your local car parts shop. Great stuff to have around.

If they're from a recent model, they're probably chromed plastic. And if they're anything like the letters I've stuck on, the adhesive that's already on them should be plenty strong enough.

I think I just wiped down the target area with tar remover, and then a little rubbing alcohol to remove any tar-remover residue. Probably not a perfect treatment, but so far, after a year or more, the letters are still securely stuck on.

A nice trick that a guy at a body shop told me about:
The letters are already neatly lined up on a waxed-paper type backing, right? If you need to adjust them any, adjust them on the backing paper until you're happy with them.
Then lay a strip of masking tape across them, and peel off the backing.
The masking tape will hold them perfectly aligned, and gives you "handles" at the edges that you can use to lay the letters down on the car.

Thanks Saaz. They already have a piece of clear plastic holding them in position, as well as the regular backing, but that's a good tip.
