Cleaning inside

when I bought my MB the previous owner had it stored at a mechs garage, they used the car as a storing unit, the carpet is real dirty with oil stain .. What do I use to remove the stain? or should I go to a professional detailer.. ????

Use White Kerosene and a stiff brush to remove oil stains then use a good spray carpet cleaner with hot water and the stiff brush to remove the rest of the dirt then place a couple of strong air freshners in the car with the heat on.
You'll be amazed how much dirt will come out keep rinsing the brush.
Good Luck

Wow

That will be a LOT of work, for the ENTIRE carpeting in the car is messed up, I guess I'll pay a deaitler to do it for me... might cost me an arm and a leg but I have no choice.. not enough time!

Take a look at the carpet pieces and see if it is possible, like on the W201, to cut your own pieces, since the carpet may be put down in parts, not as shaped whole units.

Well if your willing to make the effort all of the factory mats can be easily removed from the car. The carpet is usually attached to a foam backing so take care not to separate them when pulling the carpet out.

Once you've removed them you can then use a good degreaser made for carpets (I use Dryclean) and scrub it with a brush and then dry them with towels. Let the mats sit until they're dry and place them back in the car. If they're still soiled try a stronger degreaser (Costco sells a good one) and use the same procedure.

Good luck

I cleaned carpets in a former life. (What a racket that was!)

If you choose to clean them yourself, make sure to completely rinse them of whatever cleaning agent you use. If you don't, even though they'll look great at first, the soap/cleaner will dry with the carpets and then act like glue to attract new dirt.

I don't know how many people's carpets I cleaned that had cleaned them themselves and left a lot of soap in. The dirt would come right out, along with a lot of suds that would clog up my machine!

I don't know how much a new carpet is, but if you're removing the carpet, why not throw in a new set? I'd be curious to know where to get replacement carpet.

I just bought a new SL this week and the cream carpets were filthy. I put them in the washing machine one by one and they've come out like new.

The foam had already seperated from the back so there was nothing to come off in the machine.

If you are considering new ones it might be worth a try first.

My wife did them on 40 degrees c wool wash.

Don't blame me if yours fall to pieces though !

Good luck.
