Big time detail

Hi all, I post mostly over at the Diesel forum. I recently bought a 1980 TD with a newer rebuilt turbo engine and trans. Started going through the mechanical stuff first and now starting on really making it sharp. The exterior is Marina and the interior is dark blue.

I began my detail by removing all the seats, carpet and door panels.

To the outside.. pulled all bright metal trim, all but the gutter rail, couldn't figure out how to get that off.

Sanded the paint down with 1500 to prep for a mirror finish. Used Meguires Diamond Cut using a wool pad, followed by Dual Action Clearner using a foam pad

Made the metal tirm that goes up and across the top of the windows a mirror bright finish (some idiot previously did some sanding to metal parts) which was a 5 step process. First course emery paper, 2nd fine emery paper (using an orbital sander), 3rd 1500 wet and dry by hand, 4th emery rouge with a buffing wheel and finally mothers polish. Getting all except the rear door was a piece of cake. To do the rear, had to pull the stationary window.

I did figure out two things............First I want to replace all the rubber for everything (window seals, window channel etc etc. Sencond.........I am getting to old for this kinda stuff. Oooooooooooooo the aches.

About 75% finished, looking at it helps the lower back pain. My goal is to make each part both inside, outside and engine compartment look showroom fresh.

Don

And here I thought I was thorough in my detailing. Wow, best of luck with the remainder of the project.
