Products for door seals

Hi,

Can anyone give me some advice as to what is a good product to keep rubber seals in good order?

I want to keep my door seals soft. Over time I have found that the rubber door seals start to get hard. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

This is what I read in one of the rubbercare products.

Wurth Rubber Care, Sonax Rubber Care and Zymol Seal are designed for the "live" rubber door gaskets. These products are rich in glycerin and help maintain the flexibility and sealing ability of the gaskets. A nice side benefit is that they help keep doors from freezing in winter.

Shoppers Drug Mart will have Glycerine.
That's what's used on a baby's bum, to prevent diaper rash.

Manny,

Have you used glycerin on your seals? Is that the secret? Sounds too easy. But I guess the best solutions are some times the easiest.

Thanks for the tip.

Two or three times a year, just a light coating applied with a rag. Works for me.

I recently asked the service advisor at my local MB dealer's body shop what he recommended for caring for the door weatherstripping. He recommended WD40.

Any opinions on this?

I'm really not a fan of WD-40. I always stay away from it, it's very popular, but not very good at anything IMHO. Look for specialty products designed for your vehicles rubber parts.

wd40

hello guys

just a comment on wd40.

it is a petroleum base product not unlike kerosene with perfume. therefore any rubber product that is not BUNA N material will get mushy, swell and deteriorate . i know this because this is what we use in the valve business for seals. However.....

wd40 is an excellent cleaner. i use this in the engine compartment to keep everything clean and shiney. try it i think you might like the effects. but never on rubber if it's base is not BUNA N

just my view
