Latex Paint on Outside Mirror
Came too close to the garage door - scraped the door edge and got some white latex paint on the mirror of my 500SEL.
Please suggest how to get these white markes off. Should I use clay? I've read some bad things about clay leaving scratches. Thanks for the help, Bill Fisher

Try some light duty rubbing compound and just keep rubbing. There are probably scratches that will not come out, but all the white paint should come off.:p

get this stuff called "goof off" you can get it at any Home Depot or place like that, it is great it gets off the toughest bugs and tar too and works great on taking out scrape marks, i suggest if you use it put it on a rag rub it on the mirror untill the scrape come out than wash the mirror with soap and water and apply a polish or wax afterwards it should be like new good luck

Any luck?
Hey. I did the exact same thing to my 1984 500SEL. Got white paint on the side molding. I am curious whether you had luck getting it off. I am going to try a little rubbing compound in an inconspicuous area but I'm a little leary of that. I'm not sure what the goof off stuff is, but it sounds similar to "goo gone". I have some of that which I will try also.

For those considering using the Goof Off or Goo Gone BE VERY CAREFUL. I know this is a half response but one of these I VERY bad for your paint if not both of them due to their contents and will likely not be your best bet anyway. Try a VERY mild cleaner, I use Meguiars Body Scrub, its clear coat safe and haven't found much it wont remove.
Good luck

I'd use the clay. Make sure you use plenty of lubricant, if you do there is no chance in scratching the paint. I use it all the time on my showroom new 400E.
Rubbing compound could leave you with a bigger mess than you had. |

It seems everyone has a secret potion that will remove the paint. As suggested earlier, the rubbing compound is your best bet. Put masking tape to cover the area you don't want to rub. It should work for you.

3m Auto Paint Polish
Took my car into the autobody shop for some minor work.
As part of their clean up of the car - they removed my latex pait from the mirror. A very soft white polishing compond - available to body shops. I was warned not to use anything from the local car part store to remove latex paint. This stuff cleared it up well, withy no scratches.
