Thumbs up Brake dust on wheels.. How long....

How long before your wheels get dusty? I just washed my car four days ago and the wheels look like somebody threw graphite at them! And that's with 99% highway driving!! I'm using OEM pads and don't really want to go to a 'hard' pad, but I don't want to clean wheels every four days either!

Mine do the same. I usually wipe them off every day. I put on about 3-4 coats of wax and that seems to make them a little easier to wipe off.

LOL.........Mine get dust as soon as I get to the bottom of the driveway!!

I hate MB pads, in all seriousness my wheels get dirty with just a couple of stops at a light. I also wipe my wheels after every drive, if I don't I notice the dust embeds itself in the chrome.

The answer to all your problems is called Mintex Red Box pads.
Best pads I've ever had, stop on a dime, no dust, kind to the rotors, great life.
Or, you could continue to be a slave to your wheels.

There's no magic solution. Either get new pads (PBR/Axxis Deluxe are good) OR try dust covers OR continue to live with it by cleaning often.

Tried some after market pads and they squealed like a pig!!!

Manny
How do the Mintex Red Box do on wear and squeal?

Yal
How do the PBR/Axxis delux do additionally?

Captain
What you need is P21S wheel cleaner, I have own Mercedes for 23 years and never tried the P21S untill last month. I was amazed at how quickly and well the P21S worked. Spray it on, Use the sponge and rinse it off and the wheel is done completely.

This is probably my 6 th or 7 th set I have used over the years ( all of my vehicles ).
No squeal ( the fact that I always apply a coating of " Disc Brake Quiet " on new pads surely works ), and the wear is fantastic.
As I said, kind to rotors & in my books unbeatable.

I think the ATE pads are great.

They stop a fairly heavy car pretty quickly. Not much fade either - at least in my type of driving.

The scariest brake situation I ever had was in a late 80's Chrysler product rental car. 5th Avenue? We decided to drive to the top of Beverly Hills, CA. and look around. On the way down, the fade was so bad I could only slow the car with both feet on the brake pedal. I had to slew the car onto a cross-hill street about four times on the way down to let the brakes cool.

I love the trace of brake powder in the morning. It looks like - - QUALITY.

I'm a SLAVE to my wheels. When there looking there best after a cleaning and polish, they MUST be wiped off next day. Even the same day they start showing the brake pad toilet droppings.

All of my MBs have chrome rims, so wiping off brake dust is easy.

And any or all of the MBs that have been driven on a particular day get the wheels wiped off before retiring for the night.

Noticable brake dust will accumulate even on a short trip. Very visible on chrome wheels! A slight grey tint.

I'd rather keep up with it than watch the black ooze streaming down my driveway when I hand wash! After I finish doing one of the vehicles, I have to spend another ten minutes hosing the brake dust residue off the driveway...what a pain!

Sorry for getting back late. The Axxis/pbr Deluxe/deluxe plus pads do dust but unlike the OE pads you'll be cleaning the wheels every week instead of everytime you drive

OEM SUX!

I just put on Porterfield RS-4 street compound 'Carbon/Kevlars' on my '96 C36 to rid my car of the dust 'fiasco'. Alot of Bimmer/ Audi guys swear by 'em so I gave 'em a shot.

I paid $119 for the fronts. So far after 3 slow down break in cycles of standing on them to heat cycle them & face them to the rotors I only have 'slight' dust!!!! They grab like a bulldog too! The front of my car dives earlier now & these pads seem to work a little better after driveng them for a couple of minutes. I think they are really cool so far. Worth every penny IMO. They came via fed-ex in 5 days. My dust covers are now calling the dumpster home! here is the link....................................www.porterfield-brakes.com

They promise WAY lower dust than OE MB padz when you ask 'em.
