I like crackling rosie, not crackling trim!

The wood trim (or plastic parts next to it) on the doors of my 1985 380SE is always crackling and making snapping noises, especially the rear doors. We have a lot of bad streets where I live, which seems to aggravate the problem. I don't think the trim is loose, just making noise from rubbing against the adjoining plastic and leather, maybe. I've seen posts on this before on another forum, but I can't recall where and when. Seems rather common, if I remember, but 15 pages of searching under 'wood trim' here found nothing on this subject. Has anyone had this experience, and does spray polish, lubricant, etc., work? I'd appreciate a theory on what causes the problem and any fixes tried.
