Has anyone changed out the exterior body panels on an 81-85 w126 to look like the latter (86 and up) body? I think the change is the lower body molding and of course the wheels. Any links to a source for the newer style molding would be appreciated. Also any cost estimates and problems to watch for.

I just did a search for the exact same question until I found your thread. Hopefuly the answer gods will hear us.

I have also pondered this question. I have noticed a few pre-86 w126s with various, but not all, mouldings changed, especially the front and rear bumpers. Commonly the ribbed side moulding has been left alone. Even sills have been added.

I would assume the mounting points are the same and no modification needed. Just waiting to hear from someone who has done the full job.

Having said that, the original w126 look pre-facelift looks classic, and I will probably leave it stock.
