Gunk Left from Tint Removal
Today I had the very old and degraded window tint removed from my rear windscreen and rear door windows by a local accessory and tinting outlet. They did a very good job at removing the tint - far better than I had last year when I removed it from the front door windows to pass inspection. However, they left a mess of chaulking residue on the door panels and rear deck speaker covers along with some sticky foam stuff that remindes me of the Great Stuff expanding foam insulation one finds at Home Depot.
The foam stuff seems to come off with a generous application of elbow grease but I've tried a couple of different interior cleaners on the door panels with very little success on the chaulky stuff. Once the cleaners completely evaporate, the dull chaulky appearance returns. Any suggestions? Obviously I'm going to stop back at the shop tomorrow and voice my concern but I'd like some ideas in mind to compare with whatever they may come up with or suggest. Thanks jlc

I don't know what'd leave a chalky residue. In order to cut the adhesive that was on the windows they normally use some fairly strong ammonia. Try windex (as long as you don't have window tint now, the ammonia in it will be mercyless on that tint adhesive too) or maybe even simple green. Gunk seems a little strong to clean stuff on the interior.

I just removed my tint a few weeks ago. I use Gila Tint Remover to clean up my windows after stripping the tint.
http://www.gilafilms.com/auto/car_tools.html It can be found at most hardware stores. |

Yea that stuff works good, but it is just an overpriced spray bottle of ammonia.
