Shocked and Amazed.... Meguire's

Well, when I got my first car, a 1995 VW Jetta GLS in "triple" (or perhaps "double") black, I bought what was supposed to be the best wax for it, Zymol Carbon. I bought the kit, the HD Cleanse, all the mumbo jumbo. Read the book, even kept the tub in the ice box... I used it a few times, it came out nice, well as nice as black can get.

I got a green BMW, used the Carbon Zymol.... Okay, for about as good as a BMW is painted.

I then got the DB 172 300D, and used the Zymol, not impressed. What a PIA to apply, shine and maintain. It could rain and the job was shot.

I then bought some Meguires Carnuba Yellow Wax and let me tell you, it's the only way to go! I got the $10, "Step 3 of 3" red bottle, and its the best wax I've ever used. The car is like glass.. Easy on, easy off. My car looks 5 years newer.

Now I know I've stated some pretty brazen things, it's just my opinion. I will never invest all that BS time and money in the Zymol product and go Meguire's all the way!

Boy, that guy Barry on Car Crazy is on to something, no wonder he's a gazillionaire!

Randall....hope all is well

I too like the Meguiars products, although I use the Gold Class wax and love it. I basically follow the Meguiars Rx prescription, available on it's website and it works great.

My only deviation is I use Mothers quick detailer. It really adds a nice final gloss.

Take care and hope all is well.

Ditto on the Gold Class. (Or any other Meguiars product for that matter)

My wife had a day off yesterday and spent 4 hours with the three step (swirl remover, polish and wax) process. Car looks great.

For some of the tougher scratches, I found a product at Target called, "Meguiars Scratch-X". Didn't use it on the Merc, but I did try it on some small scratches on the '69 Fleetwood and they disappeared!

Long live Meguiars!

After trying Zymol (not at all impressed), Zaino (didn't like the look) and half a dozen other waxes I still prefer the Megs Gold Class. Zymol carbon was by far the biggest dissapointment of all waxes I've ever used, it's all about marketing hype.

jcd,

If you want a super slick and even higher reflection/shine try Meguiars Final Detail (Not Final Inspection or Quick Detail). You can buy it from paint supply shops for $18/Gallon, I am willing to bet you would be more impressed with it. The best part is that after using it a couple of times it builds a super slick layer on your paint which makes it easier to remove any future dirt (as long as it doesn't rain) I even have trouble getting the blue painters tape to stick to my paint.

Another vote here for the Meguiars Gold Class but if I want it extra shiny I finish it off with 3M's Hand Glaze.

Placo1

Is it called Final Detail for Final Inpection.

I looked at the Meguiars website under the commercial section and saw Final Inspection, which came in spray and 1 gal jugs.

Let me know and thanks for the tip.

JCD,

It's definitely Final Detail, Part # D-5101. Great stuff!

Thanks I'll try to find it.

Temecula, CA......I seem to recall that that is the home town of a couple of great sprint car drivers,,,,,Jimmy Sills and Chuck Gurney. I used to love to see them in USAC Silver Crown racing, Hoosier 100 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. I also had a great night one evening at Perris Speedway watching SCRA sprinters.......those guys really "back it in".

So 3M Hand Glaze is good? Is it a wax? Or a "glaze"? If so, what's the difference?

Well JCD, I must say, after the Meguiar's wax, my paint may look alomost as good as your silver/blue 300D. Man, that car had some paint on it!

Hope everyone is well.

Thanks Randall

My little rust spots are growing slightly, but overall the car still looks pretty good, thanks to Meguiars.

I like Meguires too.

It is easy to apply a single coat of liquid wax and be impressed. Considering how little work it takes, there products are very, very impressive.

But all of Meguires waxing products also contain polishes, so adding coats never improves the look of the wax job. This is where Zymol and P12S come in ... you can layer the stuff on.

I spent three days on my car once. My process went something like this:

Wash & Dry
Wash and Dry Again
Polish
Clay
Polish touch up
Seal
Wax (day 1)
Wax (day 2)
Wax (day 3)

Using the package provided by Autopia for the "Ultimate Finish" with a nice rotary buffer provided the best looking results I have ever seen in person. It was incredible shine, depth, color and smoothness.

Time dictates product for me. I still love Meguires.
