safe for soap?
I got my car back from a repaint approx 4 weeks ago and have been washing it with a towel and water from now on. When is it ok to start washing with soap?
|
I was told that one should wait 3 mos to 6 mos (depending on climate) is a good wait to start using soap on a paint job. They said the same for waxing too. I didn't wait that long.

We use soap to wash cars the day after we paint them. You should wait a bit to wax though, especially in the colder climates.
|
I used soap the day after painting also. The soap helps to remove the wet sanding debris. If your car is that dirty and you want to use soap, do not use a lot. Paint takes about a couple of months to fully "cure" (harden).

I just use water and towel for now and wash frequently so dirt doesnt build.
I guess thats ok. |
You need to use a mild soap made for car washing. Especially if you have hard water. The soap helps "float" the dirt off the surface saving the new finish from any abrasion. Simply using water will scratch the fresh paint.

The paint has dried long enough now for soap. I went and bought some with a new mitt and gave her a nice wash!;)
