Painting Roof Trim, 190E

The two strips of trim that go across the roof of the 190E are fading to a gray color just like the wiper arm fades to gray. The same thing is happening on the trim around the rear windshield. Has anybody ever tried painted these trim pieces on the roof and window? If not would it be possible to tape them off and paint them with a flat black or something?

The strips can be removed and re-sprayed.

I have my strips, door handles, rocker panels and moldings painted to match my car. The trick to keeping the paint from chipping is to use sandpaper.

Tape off the surrounding area or remove the entire strip from the car for better control.

Get some 600-grit sand paper and sand the strips

When the strip looks and feels smooth, it is time for primer.

If you have access to the primer for plastic, spray the clean sanded area with the primer. That primer is more flexible so it will not chip, crack or flake off .

Let the primer dry

Spray the strips with paint

This process works for door handles, rocker panels and moldings

Hope this helps
