Concours pics including our class winning 300TE
We recently entered both our 300TE and my 190E-2.3 Sportline in the annual concours of the MB Club of NSW here in Sydney, Australia. Both cars were in the same class (which covers W124, W201, and pre '96 W140, W202 & R129). My 190E didn't take any awards but the 300TE won the class in what was the biggest class on the day. 2nd in class was another W124, a nice '93 320CE. The only other W201 entered was a (rare in Oz) 2.3-16.

Nice Job Greg, the car looks great! I love the look of a clean undercarriage, makes you wonder how an older car can look so good!

Thanks for the compliments. Our cars are well used too, being daily drivers. We just try to be careful how we use them and we spend a serious amount of time (70 hours) detailing prior to the concours.

amazingly clean!
Those wheel wells really are impressive. I love a clean car and I am willing to spend some time, but I can’t imagine doing everything you do to get those cars so clean. One of these days I may have to try to get the underside of my car as clean as one of your cars. Your cars are amazingly clean!
Here is link to see more pictures of my car, even though it is not as clean as yours. http://forums.mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=52177&perpage=10&pagenumber=1

asking for an opinion from an expert
Hello Greg,
Since you love my AMG wheels and because you are kind of an expert, i.e., Vice-President of a Mercedes-Benz Club and a Concours winner, I wanted to ask how you feel about the heritage logo center caps on my wheels. I have mixed feelings about them. They really are very pretty up close and the color matches my car exactly, but they look a bit busy from a distance. Would the heritage logo center caps be acceptable at the Concours? There is something nice about the simple Mercedes star as a center cap or maybe the newest star center cap that has a chrome star on a flat silver background. I just thought it would be nice to get an opinion from an expert.

Ksing44,
Regarding the centre caps, I have a personal preference for the simple silver ones, especially on the standard wheels like mine. I tend to like the understated look such as that of silver wheels as opposed to polished or chromed wheels. I believe these can look fussy or glitzy. Likewise, I agree with your statement that the wreath centre caps can look busy. Having said that, your centre caps suit your wheels OK. As far as concours is concerned, originallity is important. In that case, your non-original wheels as well as your centre caps would lose points. It comes down to what you like, an original car that does well at concours or one personalised to suit your own taste. Greg

Personalized for now
Yes I like the idea of staying original, but I sure wouldn’t trade the AMG wheels for my OEM wheels and I am happy that I have the Eibach springs with Bilstein shocks. I also like the look of the new grille. Oh well, I guess I will go personalized for now. I can always go back to original when the car gets really old, because I have been saving all of the parts.
