Re-Paint
I asked a local paint shop to re-paint my front/rear bumpers and side moldings to match the paint of the car.
He quoted me a price of $1000 Is it accurate or outrageous? Thanks ///S320 |

No easy answer to this since it will depend on 1) the nature of the work performed and 2) the quality of the work performed. I'm not being evasive with the answer since you could do the job yourself with some spray cans of body color paint from Tower Paint, etc and a few rolls of masking tape for a lot less. On the other hand, is the shop going to remove the bumpers and trim, clean and prep them for painting, primer, use flex additive, apply more than one coat and sand between coats, clearcoat, then reassemble? How many hours did they alot for the work and at what rate?

The direct answer to your question is...it depends, as MTI states. I just had a quote for the same work to be performed as you requested and the quote was a bit north of $2000 if I remember correctly. I know the labor involved and what he is going to do and the ONLY way to do this is to remove ALL the pieces and have them prepped and painted at the same time and reinstalled which is very labor intensive but guarantees a quality job. If you question it have him break down the charges and look at some of their previous jobs.
Good luck.

All things considered, it's often your best bet to go with the middle. It's been my experience with vendors in general that the best value lies with the ones who price themselves mid-pack so to speak. But you might want to get a couple of more bids before you decide.
