what is 'flat paint'? "Not intended for flat paint."
I was shoopping for a car wax.
Do you know what "flat paint" means? I have some spots trated with POR-15, deglossed with 600 sandpaper, and then MB Touch-Up Stick applied. Is that part "flat paint"? Below is what is written on TurtleWax 2001 Car Polish and Super Hard Shell Car Wax. NOTE: Not intended for use on vinyl, wood or simulated wood, metalized plastic, decals or flat paint. |

No, I think they mean like "flat black" or whatever color. Usually it's flat black when talking auto colors, hardly ever see a "flat" color on a car if not flat black. It's the purposefully dull paint you see on cars, like sometimes the mirrors will be painted flat black.

Thank you.
Below is email reply from TurtleWax. ============== "Flat" paint is just paint with no gloss. The repaired area was deglossed to make it smooth and free of contaminants. The touch-up paint probably isn't flat because it would be designed to blend in with the surrounding glossy areas of your basecoat/clearcoat. Does it appear glossy? Any Turtle Wax liquid or paste waxes or polishes will not harm flat paint. They simply can't provide gloss to those areas. The absorption/acceptance of the polish may be uneven on flat paint, leaving the area spotty. If this a small area surrounded by unrepaired, glossy basecoat/clearcoat, I recommend that you just polish as usual over the entire area. Even if that small area is flat, and does not accept the gloss of the polish, at least you will have provided protection there. ==================== Last edited by ktlimq; 11-18-2003 at 12:35 PM. |
