Paint Chips & Scratches - Procedure
 

My paint code is 473- Champagne Metallic & the car is an '83SD.

If a paint chip is not down to bare metal, are these the steps?


1. Clean Area

2. Apply Base Coat

3. Apply Clear Coat

4. Polish/Rubbing compound on Clear Coat.

Do you sand anywhere in the process?

If down to metal do you use primer as first step after cleaning?

Here are some steps I used which worked well.

1. Clean chip using wooden toothpic

2. Swab chip with rubbing alcohol to remove any wax/contaminants.

3. Use the end of a matchstic, cut it at a 45 Degree angle and dip the tip into touch up paint. Apply a very very thin coat on the chip. Reapply up to 5 to 7 coats until the chip has filled.

4. Use Langka to remove any excess paint and to enhance the metallics in the paint.
