"Crazed" paint?

Friends:

Help me out. I'm ignorant on this subject.

What is meant exactly by "crazed" paint finish? Can you describe it?

And if the finish is crazed, but there is deep paint beneath, what tactics do you suggest to remove the crazing and bring back gloss and depth?

Thanks!!!!!!

Crazed paint looks like lines or cracks in the paint. The only remedy I know of is to strip and refinish, as the paint is bad to the bone, so to speak.

Thanks!!

Question: Is not cracks, but lots of kind of little lines in paint, looking like only on surface, and sufficient paint left, can it be wet sanded or compounded sufficiently to remove most of the surface lines?

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like a jerk. Certainly give it a try, what you think is crazed, may just be surface scratches.

Weekend Results!!!!

OK. Did half the car over the weekend. Good results.

After surface cleaning, used a moderate degree of 3M Microfinish compound, makign sure it was sufficiently wet, and even but heavy pressure. Then, followed with an application of Carnauba (Kit's; good quality for the $3.99 price, but goes fast).

Results?

Depth and color back. Almost all the fine scratch marks gone, along with the slight haze they caused.

Will probably apply second coat of Carnauba.

By the way, color is charcoal gray.

Huge difference in car.

(Note: 3M microfinish is excellent, if you use it properly. But you must follow with a Carnauba wax).

Glad to hear you had success. I'm just so used to seeing bad paint problems, I just assume that everyone see's them the way I do. Sorry if I caused you any grief.

No problem, P. We all try to help based on our own experiences.

It's just such a b---h keeping this monster shined. So big, and so much chrome. although.......the extra Euro chrome is a particularly nice touch.

thanks again for your time.
