Layering cleaner wax?

Some wax makers say that one can only layer "layerable" wax.

Usually, good cleaning ability makes the wax non-layerable.

Cleaner waxes are not layerable because the second application removes the first layer.

Some "pure" waxes are layerable but does not have cleaning ability.

TurtleWax makes a seemingly contradictory claim for their Platinum Series Liquid / Paste Wax:

"Layering several coats of Platinum Series Wax will further enhance the shine and clarity of your vehicle without streaking or build-up, while fluoropolymer resins fill in minor scratches and swirl marks."

Layering is one of those very questionable topics. Yeah there are maybe a handful of polymeric/synthetic waxes which will layer to a certain degree but for the most part I doubt it's anything measurable.

From what I've heard from the training seminars at Meguiars, the best results can be expected with two very thin coats of wax. This would be applied as frequently as necessary to maintain the protection and finish. How frequently? On my garage queen (which I drive a few hundred miles a month) I typically wax every 4 to 6 weeks or a few days before a show. My paint never really looks bad but depending on the wax I use it typically looks it's best just after I've applied it. On our CRV daily driver I wax as frequently however by the 6th week the paint finish doesn't look as nice and it definitely needs it.

IMHO I don't think any wax has serious layering abilities, if it did your scratches in your paint would fill over time and would disappear. Never saw that happen with Zaino which claims it's layerable....to put it another way I think it's a marketing ploy to get you to use more product.
