124 sunroof
I need to remove my sunroof to repair the track. Unfortunatley my manual has not shown up yet and I wanted to work on it this weekend. How do you remove the sunroof?

You want to remove the entire sunroof mechanism from the car? It's a multi step process, including careful removal of the headliner and visor panel, releaseing the cable to the sunroof motor and then unbolting the sunroof "tray" from the ceiling.

The problem is that the roof will only go up and jams on the way down. My understanding from the forum is that I need to get the roof to slide back to get it apart. There is a piece broken in the track that needs replacing, so I figure I should rebuid the whole thing while it is apart.

Well I got it out and it turns out that both pieces that are attached to the sunroof need replacing. Thanks for the help.

My sunroof would lift up but the right side would not go back down nor would it slide back. I removed my front seats to do this, it only takes 10 min to pull both seats but it gives you an much better area to work in.
1. I fabricated a tool using 1/4" extensions, a J-bar and an 8mm socket. I undid the four nuts holding the track to the sunroof. 2. At this point I was able to get into the trck area and remove some debris that I could see. I also unclipped the back of the cloth liner from the metal roof. 3. Here is where it got tricky, I sat in the car and played with the switch and managed to get the portion of ther track that slides to move back into the rear roof area. Then I gently manipulated the metal and cloth sections to follow it, until the point where I could visualize the front clips holding the cloth section on. 4. once these were undone I was able to pull the cloth section ahead and up out of the hole. Next the metal section followed, it had to be sort of turned to free one piece of track at a time. 5. Once it is out all of the mecanism and track is easily accesible I hope his helps |
