car cover question

Can someone please offer up some do's and don'ts pertaining to car covers? Thank you.

Make sure the car is dry before covering.

Make sure the inside of the cover is clean before covering

If you're putting the cover on in dusty or unpaved areas, I would avoid getting a cover that has a "velour" or brushed fabric inner side, since it's going to pick up trash when you put in on or take it off.

I don't like the heavy, waffle synthetic stuff, you can't launder it. I got one of the microfiber, and it's thin, washable, and washing expands the fibers and keeps the water repellancy.

I think the trade name for the material is stormguard.

car covers are great, 100% cotton covers keep car cool in summer, MB OEM Evolution covers don't keep car as cool as cotton but help protect against U.V and winter ice/hail.

learn the technique for taking cover on and off, learn how to wash cover. www.covercraft.com

MB OEM covers have a life span that can be as short as a few years, one of my MB OEM covers has lasted about four year and still going and another is on it's last leg after a little more than two years.

My 100% cotton cover is six years old and is excellent for summer use, the noticeable differnce in interior car temp between 100% cotton and Evolution fabric can be ( my guesstimate ) nearly thirty degrees.

Stormguard was the nicest all season material I have owned, mine was stollen - so be aware of your surroundings and possibliity of theft.
For windy conditions a nice synthetic rope from Home Depot is useful to tie down car cover.

Car must be clean of hard particles ( dirt, dust, ice ) when using cover. black paint means be extre diligent in all manner of car cover use

i have 4 car covers. the micro-thin are the best. they keep the car exterior looking new after a good wax. try california car cover company on the net.

Do you cover exhaust pipe hole with your car cover?
Or do you let the exhaust pipe hole be exposed?

if storing a car for a long time cover the exhaust if possible.

for daily outside usage, cover the car in such a fashion that wind will not catch under the cover and billow it.
