Thanks for looking out for the group!

Plantman,
Thanks for the heads-up! I know that many of you out there are the most honest, enthusiastic, mercedes-heads out there, and I enjoy cruising around on this forum so much. It always serves me well, I think of many people here as friends and describe you as such to other people. I do always use caution, but it is nice to know who is trustworthy out there and who needs a bit more scrutiny in interactions.

Thanks again, because I know that was a bit difficult to know what was the right thing to do.

Greasy

PS My Mercedes enthusiam has spilled over into my father who just bought a 95 C280, black on black, with 115K. Very nice!

!
It ultimately falls on me. I should have asked him if he would accept the part back if it was not the same as in my car.

From what I understand, the guy is going thru a divorce and maybe he needs the $$$ more than the need to do the right thing.
I would return funds to any member who purchased a part from me that was defective or not the right one for his car.

Is it incumbent upon the buyer to do the homework and make sure it's right?

Yes.

I also think both parties should investigate, so's not to cause any ill will.

If I were to buy that same part from a junkyard, and it was incorrect, I would either get an exchange or a refund.

thanks

Defective is one thing...seller should be responseable for making sure it is in "as described" condition..."will it fit?"... I feel is 100% the buyer...I have bought and sold a lot of used parts...the seller is selling a single specific part... it's not like ordering a new one and getting the wrong one...

I have bought a couple of "wrong parts" and have chalked it up to.."A good education is expensive" and just resold or swaped them for something else. If the pic you had to go by is as good as the one you titled "last one" then I'd say that the seller did his part...

Just my .02 cents

I agree with you for the most part. However, certain items a single picture won't work. This console for example, it would have been prudent for the seller to take a picture of the connectors as well.

Of course as a buyer it would have been prudent to perhaps ask for one.

Myself, seeing how these parts interchange on these cars, I wouldn't have thought they'd be different.

I guess the moral of the story is try and be exactly sure that its the right part. And if thats not possible, discuss swapping/returning with the seller beforehand.

THe pictures provided were mine. I was sent a picture of the top part only. It would have been impossible to tell they were different connectors.

He did however state, "it should fit".

A lesson learned no doubt to the tune of $110.00

Lightbulb Is it for sale?

Hello Plantman
Are you willing to sell this part.
There are more than a few 300SD's in need this part.
Hmmm, $110.00 USD sounds like a fair price.
Have a great day.

I'll sell it for 110.00 and include free shipping. The wood is in really good, if not great shape. There are no cracks, but one of the clips are broken inderneath. Since it is different than mine, I never tried to see if it would work with the missing clip.

I guess if you had your old one, you could remove your clip and epoxy it or something.

Hunter,

Were you kidding or is 110.00 reasonable? I have no idea what they sell for. I just wanted one as mine is no more.

Hmmm

That panel alone will cost me $120.00 just to have the veneer redone and take ten days.
Look up the switches, mirror and window for a 1985 300SD on FastLane.
Total all that up and YES, I think it is a reasonable price for the current condition.
Oh, crud, the window switches are no longer availible.

I've dealh with 4 members here 3 of which I bought from and 1, I sold something to. Just incase people are wondering for future references they have all been good so far and 1 of them is in progress. I've bought from mattdave, jim1667 (can't remember the rest), and Antony. I sold a part to Lietuvai. I've always received the parts promptly and usually have gotten as I expected. However, I have received defective parts and both times the owners made good. I've dealt with a couple people previously listed several times and will probably more in the future.
Thanks
David

I've bought and sold stuff in these forums. I've never had any issues in dealing with any forum members. If the seller is guranteeing that the part sold is in "X" condition, then they need to be willing to take the part back. However, if the items is being sold "as is," then the buyer takes the risk that what they bought may or may not be what they thought - espcecially if it is an entire parts car or some other large item. Of course, the seller needs to be upfront on the condition of the car - i.e. oil burner, dead, ugly, and just plain nasty.
