Opinions on best way to flush metal out of crankcase??

Well I finally found a vacuum pump that had been in inventory for a while. I checked with everyone and they were either 425 dollars or 350 and a three month wait(yes I gave the forum sponsor a shot and they were quite hospitable but the euro exchange rate was killing them on this item). One that has been in inventory for a year 240......not quite priceless but good.

Since my other one came partially apart I know that I have shavings and some small bearing pieces in there somewhere.

Whats the best insurance. I was thinking pull the pan first, clean, reinstall, fill with clean oil and run for an undertermined distance and then change oil and filter.

I also thought about installing a magnet in the pan assuming that I can get one that is strong enough not to be dislodged.......seem like a good idea or lunacy??

Anyway since a few forum members saved my engine to begin with I thought I could get some good advice on how to proceed now!!

BTW THANKS TO Wes Bender and Old Dies for the input on the pump that saved the engine !!!!

Thanks,
Stephen

Why not buy a used vacuum pump and rebuild it then? They don't cost very much to rebuild.

Yes pulling the pan off would probably be the best way to ensure the motor is clean.

I thought about that option but then I'm over half way to the price of a new one! Also I'm stuck with a used bearing that is not replaced by the rebuild kit. Of course that is what failed on mine.

The peace of mind is more important to me than the $100 I could save.

I understand that these pumps dont fail the way mine did very often but I try to stay away from teaching others by my mistakes if I can avoid it!!!
