W123 Stretch Limo!!
|
I'm diggin it!
Call me crazy - but I think that is cool
|
I saw two black 300D limo's here in LA and one really nice 126 limo, no diesel.
|
I think it's fantastic. But a non-turbo 300 with the extra weight of the limo conversion has got to redefine the term "stately."
Did anyone notice it has that wonderful cloth interior? |

I believe this to be a Euro model, based on the fact that it has cloth seats, and from what I know, factory W123 Limo's were not avaible in the US...
|
I think 240 "limousines" are fairly common...
Check the opening scenes from "The Boys From Brazil" where a stretch 240 (earlier than a 123) trundles around downtown Paraguay with James Mason aboard.
A lot of companies wanted something reliable and simple that could haul seven passengers in the days before vans...also did livery duty. |
There is another one up here in wine country poster on http://www.craigslist.org/
I think these people selling these things think they are sitting on a gold mine when they are really sitting on a novelty. They are pretty useless. If you have extra cash and have small kids or belond to a small group that frequently goes places together, they can be a kick. Many years ago before the 123 chassis, I had a 250/8 stretch, and I had small kids. I took my kids and their friends to scouting, school outings, and such. They had a blast. Like I said if you can pick one up reasonably, they can be a rewarding experience. PS I also had a stretch 600 4 door for a year, but that was a serious high maintenance item. I remember taking my oldest daughter and her date to the senior prom. Lots of kids shelled out big bucks to rent Cad and Lincoln limos, but when we arrived, the limo drivers got out to look. My daughter felt pretty important. I had a good time too. Peter |
The eBay car is a local cut and stretch job. I wouldn't touch that one. The wedding car in the other picture is a factory job. The rear door is the giveaway. I believe the LWB 123s came from the factory as 240D, 250 and 300D models. I've seen a number of LWB 123s but never with a factory turbo. I saw a LWB 240D with a Rajay turbo.
Peter, do you have a working link or keyword for the craigslist LWB? Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |
