origonal price?

After becoming more interested in the W123's and all the diesel mercedes, I started wondering where they would stand in the marketplace today. So what I am doing, is trying to find the origional cost of diesel's from 1980-1987. Then I use that price in an inflation calculator to find what that model would cost in todays money. An 85 300D Turbo Diesel would go fro around $50,000, and a SD would go for around $68,000[I think], which is 40k or so in 1985.

If you know any prices, or msrps from the 1980-1987 era, post it here.

By the way, im new here, my brother has a 1981 240D , and I plan to get a W123 as well.

Thanks,

My 82 240D had a sticker price of $22,500. It did have a few options, like power windows, tape deck, and the standard A/C, cruise control, and power locks that most all came with.

I found this site that might help.
http://inflationdata.com/inflation/Articles/CalculateInflation.asp

According to this, prices have risen 85% since 1984, the year my 85 was sold. So an Sd in todays dollars would be $71,765.
Isn't that about what an s class starts at now?

So a 240D went for around 43k. After figuring this stuff out, it gives me more respect for these cars than before. Since we are willing to do the work ourselves,[most of us] we can enjoy much more expensive cars. I guess we have better luck than rich people... in some ways.

Isn't it a wonderful world to be able to afford such expensive cars for so little? The cars that I own today would be unthinkable to own as new (all 3 of them) unless you were super rich.

At $26,550 that put's my '83 240 at about $49,500 in todays money, about the base cost of a new E320 CDI.

Just to put this into perspective-

Me and my dad took my brothers 240D to the inspection station. At the time it had some rust here and there, and heavily oxidised paint. It also had clear coat flaking. One of the guys working there was from a poor country, not sure which one[ill let ya know] possibly turkey. The whole time were were there he was talking about how great the car was. The most memerable thing he said was " If I had this car in my country, I could have any woman I want. That made my day.

mbzkid,

"Me and my dad".

How about "My dad and I"?

My 84 300D went for $31,000. I still have the window sticker, had everything except heated seats. Pretty amazing. You really want to get freaked out, compare the costs for 944 turbos and 8-series BMWs!
