I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, but...

Okay, I had problems with my AC quite a while ago ('80 300TD). Fixed all the major components and vac as well. Long story short I got the system filled and it was nice and cold.:) Then a week later no more cold.:( Filled it again at a new place (a friend of mine) and added dye to the mix to check for leaks after trying with a sniffer. Sniffer found an inconsistent leak around the front of the compressor. Had a trip so I was gone and the car wasn't used for about 8 days. Come back and no cold again.:( :( Put the light to it and no dye visable anywhere! We figured that the freon leaked out while the system was not under pressure and the dye stayed in the system:rolleyes: Refilled the system with dye and this time the wife drives it while I'm gone. Now almost a MONTH later still as cold as the day we charged it!!:D

The system was not used for years before I got the car and repaired it myself. Now I don't believe that any car fixes itself....or maybe....no, not possible.... anyway how could this happen? Could the seals be dry but not cracked? Maybe the triple shot of oil with the charges lubed the seals? Anyone seen this before?

Or maybe there was sealer in the freon and
this plugged the leak.

I'm going with "it's obviously the wife's car", take a hint and just get another one for yourself that already has a working A/C.

Does a freon fill have sealer in it?

Some cans of oil also contain a stop leak.
