Wife and I have a 1997 neon,
its at 108k right now, (A/C leaks x2, new head gasket c/o DC). Not a bad car, starts, runs shifts, manual windows, manual locks.
not a bad car, I'll miss it.
We just decided on a date to get rid of it. Its value is going to decrease the longer we keep it (prolly worth less than my 240D right now...) As the mileage piles up the maintenance problems will crop up more and more

After 100k I expect to start seeing alternators and half-shafts fail, assuming the the AT and holds together.

The AT is a 3spd unit anyway (c'mon dodge- MB had a 4spd auto in 1982 !

So instead of doing financial calculations, we just decided -sell it this winter when there might be deals on cars left over from this model year.

I'm sure there is a finanacial guru that can dictate how to find the best time to sell a car.

I decide when my car no longer runs or works properly anymore, and the repair costs are more or close to what the vehicle is worth. However, I am in that predicament right now and don't quite know what to do. My engine is leaks way too much oil on my 81 SD, it probably needs new oil rings, and that means a new engine. I paid $2000 for it and have sunk another $1000 into it in the past year and a half. I really like this car, but it does have some other small issues and I could probably get another one at around 1500-2000. So I think I need to do that, rather than fix this one, but ...I really like my car and am having a hard time letting it go.

Anyone else know hwat I mean?
