LMAO

My SDL smells like leather because I use the oldest used car dealer trick -Leather Scent. You can spray this stuff on a wool sweater and people will think you are wearing a leather jacket

Mine still smells like leather like it did 9 years ago when I bought it. Now, I'm not usually thought of as AR, but the night I bought my car I came home to hear my wife tell me that the seatbelt in the minivan "didn't work anymore". An hour or so of removing seats and many plastic panels, I found the reason. 17 starburst candies jammed into and extruded through the seatbelt mechanism. Thus, kids don't eat in my car -period. Now, my wife's newer 4 year old minivan has that same old french fry stench, and no, it's not a diesel.

Mine is a combination of old/leather smell....I like it, especially like was mentioned earlier, the "with the heat on" smell. People do mention that it "smells old" or "smells weird".....but I ignore it. Our 83 has MB-tex (vs. mine with leather) and they do smell differently, you can tell the other one is vinyl right away.

Ha ha ha, you remind me of a funny story. When I worked in a body shop one day, we had a Volvo 244 to bring in but it wouldn't start. So we mobilized the "goon squad" (everyone in the shop) and pushed it in. As we pushed it thru the door I cut one (farted).

The guy beside me who was the one who was going to work on the car, said "Geez this car stinks". I wanted to laugh but held my peace. The germ of an idea was forming.

From then on whenever I felt a fart coming on I made sure to go over to his work area and give him the benefit of it. I did this in a subtle way, casually going over to get a piece of sandpaper, etc. Kept it up for 2 weeks whenever he was working on that car.

I about drove him nuts. He kept saying "This car stinks. Somebody left some dirty diapers in the trunk." He tore that car apart, trunk mats out, back seat out, under the hood, under the car everywhere looking for the smell. All the time it was me LOL.

I never did tell him but everyone else got quite a laugh out of it.

At least for those cars with the MB Tex, the likely source of the odor is the plasticizer coming out of the vinyl. That loss of plasticizer is what causes the door panels to eventually have that funny stretched winkled look. It is also what causes the plastic trim around the windows to get so hard and shrink and wrinkle and look so bad! These plasticizers all have very distinct odors, so as they effuse out of the various vinyls they lend their odor to the car's interior.

Had an early 80's Chrysler wagon that had a bad interior smell that was eventually traced to the butyl plasticizer used in the steering wheel. This particular chemical has that pukey odor mentioned here earlier which can also be associated with goats.

My 1992 190E developed that crayon smell. I know exactly what you are talking about. I could never figure it out, but finally decided that I never noticed it until after the AC quit working, and they switched it over to R134.
It could just be my imagination, but it seemed to start about the same time.

Mine doesn't have a strong smell, but it does smell kind of like a blend of 303 and cloth.

My 300D smells like a sheep crawled inside and died in it. I have sheepskin covers in it. While they make the seats really comfortable, anytime the interior heats up when sitting out in the hot sun, it'll make me wanna wretch!

I clean the middle panel of my car with orange glo, so my car always smells like oranges, but i did try to get one of those under the seat smelly bags, and hubby put it under there, a couple months later i remembered i had gotten it, pulled it out and laughed SOOO hard, my hubby never open the plastic bag it came in LMFAO
