Going to Mexico, need advice

I am going to drive 'lLittle Brownie" from Los Angeles to Guadalajara in a few weeks to attend a business convention. Since I am "packed" with convention materials and have several stops to do along the way, I decided to take the Diesel.
In my trunk I have Tools galore, metric and none, spare radiator hoses, 2 each fuel filiters, a thermostat and one spare tire.

What else sould you guys think of to take along as an emergency help? Yes, I have pills against Montezuma's Revenge, I mean preventive stuff and for the emergency

Get car insurance for Mexico at the border. It's cheap and they won't put you in jail if you get in an accident.....hopefully.

Go to Mexico, leave your car at home.

Ditto on the car insurance. Your U.S. policy is not valid insurance in Mexico.

Advice regarding Mexico.....

Look,
I'll try to tell you how it is. Mexico is not like here(at all).Criminal elements rule. Many of the worst wear uniforms. Trouble can be very expensive and if you can't pay, fatal.
Do you speak Spanish? Enough to deal with delicate situations?Plan on driving at night? My advise is to fly.
I've spent a number of years farther south. It's not like it used to be.I'd hate to hear about a forum member being tortured and murdered. Good Luck!

My advice following 7 trips to Torreon (all driving and 7 hours in) is to get the insurance BUT don't count on anything except PESOS. Buy your way out of everything and discount the ethical ramifications as its built into the culture.

I've seen over 100 bribes take place and after awhile you just look at them like a small fine. However, if you are American, count on the value of the fine being 10x that of a resident.

We average 7 vehicles and 80 people for about two weeks at a shot and therefore get pulled over for 'fines' on a regular basis.

If you try to cover all the bases ahead of time by being 'official', you are setting yourself up for huge frustration. After you cross the border, have a pocketful of cash and just enjoy the difference.

I see things haven't changed since the 60's, and 80's when I was in Mexico. Fly to Belize and you we be much safer, the langusge is English and the money the dollar. Cleaner also. Mexico City is about the dirtest city, outside of a couple in China, in the world.

Also make sure you don't have any firearms or ammunition in your car or possession. They find one lost .22 cartridge in your trunk and you might be a permanent resident there...

I'd fly.
