1st to 2nd gear

I've been searching the archives for a couple of hours now and I'm getting tired, so I'm just going to ask my question. I'll understand if no one answers. I have a 1984 300SD from California. I bought it recently and had a major service done by Enrique of Mr MB motors. When I drive around on streets with a low speed limit I like to drive in "2". Starting a couple of days ago when I drive in "2" it will not shift from 1st to 2nd until I hit 4,000 rpm. When I first got the car it would shift around 2,000 to 2,500 unless I kept the accelerator floored. I asked Enrique about this and he said it was normal. But it didn't use to do this. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Gilbert

Sounds like Enrique 'adjusted' the bowden cable. It's probably 1/2 to 3/4 turn too tight. Try loosening 1/4 turn.

After I wrote my question I knew I should have described how the car behaves in 3 and D. It shifts absolutely perfect in 3 and D. So why do I want to drive in 2 so bad ? In 3 and D you really have to keep it floored to run in second gear up to 25 or 30 which I find myself doing more often than I'd like. I would like to liesurely go from 10 to 30 mph instead of drag racing. Thanks for the suggestion R Leo, I'll check out the bowden cable as soon as I can find it in the manual. Can you tell I'm a newbie?

Thanks,
Gilbert

You can liesurely go from 10 to 30 mph with the selector in "3". The 2-3 shift will probably occur at about 20 mph, but, so what? Without any hurry then third gear is fine.
