help me identify engine

I bought a very nice 1977 240d for $200 a few days ago the man claimed it had no compression in one cylinder. I found the compression to be fine but the new rebuilt injector was not outputting any fuel at all. For many reasons I am sure this is not a 240 d motor IE there is a shock mounted at front of car that should go to engine but no where to connect it to engine. The car has an oil cooler but no lines to hook up to oil cooler and I can’t find any coming from the engine that has been capped. The radiator hoses have home made tie downs too keep them away from moving parts. The man I bought it from told me it was a 230 engine from a junk yard. The only thing I can find about 230d engine could not possible be this engine. I did find a plate on the engine that reads as follows.
Original Mercedes-Benz
Tauschaggregat
Teil-nr. 61501080 illegible looks like 00 then 88
Aggregate nr. 627402
Can any one identify this engine?
Dave S

I'm going to guess that it's a 615 engine out of a 220D.

I think this because of the 61501080 number you gave and finding that 220D's of the early 70's had those according to this http://home.hiwaay.net/~gbf/mbmodels.html

See if Coast FI or Pacific FI can figure out what engine the IP part number belongs to. Or maybe Phil can trace back the cam part number.

Yes, 615 engine that could be out of a 220d. They also put it in other vehicles like their vans.

Does the VIN begin with 115.117 or 115.110? Maybe the car isn't a 240D.

Just a SWAG, but I wonder if it could be a stationary engine, like out of a reefer or generator or something.
