Lol....

Yea but the biggest issue is they didn't build in a primer pump or any good way to bleed it either, doesn't help that the fuel gauge has never worked!

Boost,

I have a Roosa Master IP on my Case and I think it pumps the fuel somewhat but not enough to purge any air in the system. If I run it out of fuel or change the fuel filters, I have to loosen the input line atthe IP to get all the air out. I have had to blow air into the fuel tank to push the air out of the lines to the IP and the fuel filters.

PEH,

Do you have a mechanical or electric pump on your Caes? Since I have a 1986 F-250 with a 7.3 liter diesel in it that I use to pull my car trailer, I sometimes hang out at a forum for diesel truck owners. These International engines have the rotary pump and folks buy a $36.00 electric pump to replace the mechanical one. This totally eliminates the bleed downs experienced during filter changes, etc. I bought one a couple of months ago. All I need to do now is install it.

Autozen,

The Case 530, circa 1960, has no fuel pump at all and runs fine without one. The fuel just gravity flows to the IP as the tank is mounted to the rear and above the engine. That engine burns such a small amount of fuel, about 1/2 gallon per hour, it doesn't take much flow to keep it going.

I put on a second fuel fliter because the original Case filter would not keep dirt in the fuel out of the IP and the IP had to be repaired twice. Since adding the second filter about 25 years ago, I haven't had any trouble with the IP. The filter I installed was a generic filter, cube shaped and has a glass cover with a metal back and pleated paper inside. The refill I have is made by Fram.

Is that a statement of opinion or have you dealt with dirty fuel tanks often? What would then cause your injectors to become dirty and the spray pattern look like a stream instead of a mist- nothing if you had the correct filters and changed them? That's not a mechanic talking, IMHO. 10 micron filters and the primary and secondary on the engine and I've still had to R & R injectors and there was only one possible cause- biocide. I don't say this as opinion- it's what happened.
