I need to find the other pin. I took out the top one that the tension spring is connected to.

I have posted mercedes' own description for this job. If you open it and have a look at it, it is clearly described on page 3.

Also I took out my chain tensioner and left the tensioner holder in the head. Is that possibly holding things? I just tried to get it out and broke my wrench. It is pretty stuck fast. I put some penetrating oil on it for the night.

Everything else went pretty smooth. Just got to get her off and see what is underneath!

Did you take out the two allen heads at the very front of the head in the timing chain gallery? You have to look down into the timing chain gallery to see them and use a allen head socket (6mm I think) and 6" extension to get to them. The top pin for the timing chain guide on the driver's side partially blocks access to one of the allen head bolts.

Yes, there is a lower pin that has to be removed.

You may have to clean the head some to see it, but there is a second pin, just like the upper pin but only shorter in length that has to be removed.

I found it. I did have to clean the head a bit. It was barely visible.

The head is off and it looks very good. No visible cracks and quite clean and free of deposits. The pistons look equally as good as do the bores.

It was very obvious where the head gasket blew near number one on the exhaust side mixing oil and coolant.

I have already cleaned the surfaces well and put on the gasket and dropped the head on. Just have to bolt everything up.

Thanks for the help thus far.
