88 300SEL worth a look?
Let me say first my 92 300D that I have had for 8 months (my 1st MB also) has been a great vehicle and one I plan to keep for a long time. I was not looking for a diesel benz in particular, but after seeing the ad in the paper and doing some research, I bought and am glad I did! As with many others, I am hooked! But.. I have come across a 2 owner 88 300SEL in excellent condition w/160k miles with new A/C compressor, shocks, brakes, tires, mint navy interior and ice blue exterior (same as my 300D) that has only minor door dings and no rust. Anyone owned or driven one of these? Owner wants 6k, but sounds high to me. Am curious as to what long term issues are with these. From reading this forum, I am more aware of issues with my 92, which has been one of the best pre owned vehicles I have owned, and possibly better than the few new ones I have owned. Thanks for any advice.

I have a 88 300SEL andi really love the car. I don't get to drive it much as my wife is always taking it. . It's been very reliable and I have'nt had any trouble with it. The 103 motor is pretty solid, from what I understand the only real weak point is the valve stem seals will leak if the oil is'nt changed religously. The W126 chassis is the best, period.

I agree... I own the same car(year and model) and love it. The engine is easy to work on and you have TONS of room in there. Not much bad about it.. just wish it was a little higher in the performance category.
