I don't have anything extra and I agree that it is a scam, I do want theft, it doesn't cost that much more. The problem is that I am on my parents policy, I would like to hunt for cheaper rates but my dad has all of the insurance for everything together. He is in the process of looking for a better price however they all seem to be about the same.

That helped me, and since I lose about 1 windshield per year to the construction industry my premiums will pay for themselves.
Representations by the agent are not binding on the company. The adjuster may look at the blue book for the fair market value and put the burden on you to show that the car was worth more than blue book.

Angel, if this is true then insurance companies probably own the state legislature there and have free reign to test market all sorts of rip-offs and dopey regs. One day they may even outlaw cars more than 10 yrs old there with cooperation of state motor vehicle department, who knows?

What I'd like to see are statistics that demonstrate diesel MB's are involved in fewer accidents resulting in fewer personal injuries than any other vehicle on the road.

My insurance guy loves the old 240D 4-spd. I think it's appraised at somwhere around $800 bluebook, but that's okay with me. Somebody offered me $2000 for the car at gas station awhile ago and I laughed and told him it wasnt for sale at *any* price.

...at one point, Duesenbergs and classic Packards were "worthless"...

and many were picked up for next to nothing from used car lots for use as "station cars" and / or just because they were neat. Parts were available and cheap (still the case with Packard) and the simplicity of these robust vehicles made them easy to keep on the road.

People who became interested and maintained these cars properly found out after a while that their value appreciated. Although my '81 240D will likely never be as valuable as a full classic, I note that in early Packard club photos from the '50s that the cars pictured are almost exactly as old as W123s (et al) are now.

Take care of them...drive them...enjoy them. Value can be measured in other ways than monetary cost. If you must, get "agreed value" insurance to protect your "investment".

I'm so nervous about my 87 300D that

I am going to rebuild the 85 300D that it was intended to replace....I mean all W123's will be collecter's items some days, but my 87 looks like it came from the showroom..

Does anyone know what the req's are for declaring your vehicle as a classic? This probably varies from state to state. In some cases it results in considerably cheaper insurance. It also helps with getting better replacement dollars, in case of loss. I know that folks who have antique vehicles usually go this route.

I checked this out once, several insurors specialize in classic cars. They all told me I couldn't drive the car as a daily driver, total annual mileage was very low otherwise they wouldn't insure it. What they want to insure is a car that is parked in a locked garage and is taken out once a year for parades or on Sunday drives to the park and back.
