84 300D tranny

I decided to replace the 300D tranny using a dolly and some jacks.
I know that i should first disconnect the transmission output shaft and the drive shaft from each other.
How do i do that?

I also need to disconnect the engine from the transmission on the fron side.
How do I do that?

Finally, does anyone know how many bolts hold the tranny to the body of the car?

thanks

This is a diyer job but only if you are a pretty experienced diy'er.
There is one mount holding the tranny and that is at the back of it. Once you get up under there it will be pretty evident how you remove the driveshaft from the tranny and you will be able to see the front flex joint where the driveshaft bolts to the tranny. The hardest part you will have is removing the top two fasteners that mount the tranny to the engine. I always tilt the back of the tranny down to allow me to get a really long extension with a swivel socket in there. You will need to remove the flywheel to torque converter fasteners before you get that far along though. Looking toward the rear of the car you will see an opening in the bell housing where you can see the flywheel (there may be a sheet metal plate that you need to remove). As you rotate the engine over you will see the fasteners that attach the two. You will want to remove all of them.

You need to MAKE SURE the torque converter is properly seated in the tranny pump BEFORE you mate the tranny back to the engine. This is something that is done by feel more than anything else. When you get that far along come back and ask for a description of that.
