I'm in the same boat. FWD alignment is a different game for me . I'm subscribing to this thread. I know it won't be as good as this board (I've tried some), but I'd settle for a good recommendation for Lexus/Toyota board.

I tried to find a good Toyota forum like this one, but was unable to. Their was one, but the technical info was slim. Now if you want to put rims on or brag about how your Camry is faster than an E55...

Do a google search on "toyota discussion forum" and you will find a number of them. If you are talking about a truck or 4runner, try www.tundrasolutions.com.
Have a great day, |

The Toyota forums are not as busy since the old Toyota's don't have all the problems we read about here.
My 83 Cressida with about 200k miles will run with any w123 but it doesn't have the charm of flex disks, cracks in the dash, water leaks, etc. Plus I get 37F vent temps from the A/C.

Yes but your Toyota's at the end of it's life! Not to mention the W123 is a safe fun car to drive I loved working on my Camry I only cut myself and swore off wrenching 2-3 times a job.

Only had one Toyota, '00 Echo. Three recalls, a/c never worked well and 2 dealers said the a/c was normal, and two main CPU's failures, trans computer failed. Changed oil ever 2k miles and egine was sludging up at 21k miles when I traded it in for a Jetta TDI. 40,000 miles later no problems, 38 mpg city and 50 mpg highway.
"10 to 17 miles to the gallon" Just plain dumb. "18 to 25 miles to the gallon" Think you’re smart. "26 to 34 miles to the gallon" Must be Japanese - think you are even smarter. "45 to 55 miles to the gallon" Now you're really smart. Must be a VW TDI.

I'll use something as simple as the oil filter as an example. Why is it that a 3.0L I-5 diesel engine from MB has such a huge oil filter and one for an engine of the exact same size Toyota doesn't have such a huge one? Both engines run just as efficiently, but the MB one is over engineered. I still love MBs for the luxury, power, safety and prestige. But there's no need to talk down Toyotas! Also another reason why such a board as detailed as this one may not exist for Toyotas is because while your average 20 year old MB has A/C, power door locks and windows, power steering, fuel injection in the gasoline engines, etc, your average 20 year old Toyota has nothing but a buzzing 4 cylinder engine, a caburated engine and manual everything. Less stuff to break over the long run.

I don't see many 20 year old Toyota's no one wants them, because their are a pita to fix not to mention crude dangerious little cars. Now I that I have worked on Toyota/Honda/GM/Ford I can say that Mercedes are the best to work on. You have to look in odd place's to find quality, for example behind door panals, under carpet. Now MB are by no means perfect and have many problems but they are built to a higher standard, price does reflect this. As for an S600 being at the dealer for half of it's first 90 days, LS430's I'm sure have done that to. Have you ever driven or worked on an S600? There cool cars. No one wants a 10 year old LS400 because it cost $3k to replace a starter for example. Now that I have said that I like Toyota's and am hunting for another Camry for my winter car, they are a good way to get around. But they should not be compared to MB of the same age, apples and oranges.

1) No LS430 has spent that much time at the dealership. The LS430 tops ALL quality surveys. It is simply the most reliable car ever made. This is a fact, not my opinion. 2) I have driven an S600. As a matter of fact, that's my dream car. I love the power, styling, safety and prestige, however I know it is also the most troublesome car ever made, so I'll always have a Toyota in my garage so that when the so-called high quality MBs fail, the ever faithful Toyota will provide me with a form of transportation. 3) Many people want 10 year old LS400s. I for one wish I still had mine (my girlfriend totaled it in an accident). While Toyota was still learning there, there were many aspects of that car that were better than what MB had ever done. I'd say it was an excellent achievement for a newcomer to beat a well established player at ANYTHING!! 4) Lexus, while selling in far fewer countries than MB, makes more profit due to lower warranty expenses. So did you say highest quality = MB? Also, another reason why you may not see many 20 year old Toyotas may be because of several reasons: you may live in an area where people generally hate imports; those Toyotas were very cheap when new, so any small impact could get them considered a total loss by the insurance company and sent to the junk yard; many of them would be in the junk yard thanks to rust - even while all of the car's essential components work like new. The MBs may be better built and all that crap, but they aren't as reliable. They have too many issues and we all know it!

No argument just a debate. I see a lot of people thinking reliablility and quality are the same things, their not. Quality is useing good materials and building a car designed to be rebuilt. Any car maker that does this shows to me at least that their product is ment to be around for awhile. For example after having pulled the interior out of my SDL I saw how most parts are designed to come out to give you access to other components. Now after pulling apart some of a W210 interior I can say MB improved much, everything came apart much better than on my SDL. With a few screw drivers you can pull anything you want out inside that car in a few minutes. (within reason) Now on my Camry (I must ad I still wish I had this car it never broke) you could not get anything apart, the whole car was built not to be fixed. Ask anyone who has re-sealed an oil pump on the 4cy, that was a pita of a job. I replaced the valve cover gasket 3 times before it stopped leaking, not to mention I always seemed to be bleeding after working on that thing. I loved driving it and it never let me down, never failed to start, and had good AC. But when it did break...
On a side note used Lexus values are holding up well but we will see who wants a 15 year old LS400 in a few years, Toyota's seem to tank in value after 10 years.
