Today my new driver son was driving the 240 to the Junior Orientation at High School and thought the car needed fuel. The story goes that he was on the inside of the curve and got too close to another car on the outside so swerved into the curve a little sharper to avoid the other car. Well as fate would have it there was a very short traffic bollard on the inside. (I hate those things cause I did the same thing twenty years ago in Arizona in my old ford pickup. They are the posts filled with concrete to protect the fueling islands.)

So it appears he drove the car up on it with the passenger side rear door. Also bent the rim. Looks like the door is bent and sprung inward. The inward deflection is on the bottom part that skirts the frame. There may be a very slight deflection to the interior (maybe not). Door shuts only slightly harder that normal.

Any advice. What if I take the door off and remove the window and apply some force to the bent part? Problem is the only exterior metal to force is the lip that seals the bottom of the door. If I get any response I'll borrow a camera and post a picture.

Anyway glad it was a minor "first accident" maybe he learned that brakes are a good option in such situations. Have a good day everyone! Thanks for the interest.

Does he own the car or do you?? Maybe you should tell him that if he figured out a way to fix it and maintain it, then he could own the car.

Or even surrender the '88 Oldsmobile to his care and keeping, telling him to pay for his own fuel, repairs, etc.

Otherwise, I dont think anybody can advize you on repairing the 240D without at least seeing a picture of the damage.
