Not sure of the "correct" name but I call it the tranny vacuum signal controller. The line coming out the side should be vented to atmosphere.

And it would be a little better if that line to atmosphere terminated in the passenger compartment under the dash, where it's cleaner. It provides increasing leak in proportion to throttle position. The little canister connected to the top via a hose is a damper.

Am I mistaken, or is that the ALDA sitting right next to the transmission control valve? It is missing its connection from the overboost protection valve and therefore has no boost
|

That would be becuase it's not an ALDA. It's an ADA, used for altitude compensation on non-turbos, like this 240D.

That metal can with the line missing looks like that of a non turbo engine. No boost on that one. At least that is what it looks like on my 617 non turbo engine.
