1975 240D (116) Part Needed

This will go on the parts area, but I can't locate it at Fastlane and need some help.

The part right behind the key switch tumbler that has all the pins on it is called by some the 'ignition switch'. Others will balk at that cuz there is no ignition.

Where do I find this for such a beast (1975 240D (116)) ? Fastlane doesn't appear to have it.

Thanks Don

FWIW, a 1975 240D would be a W115, not a 116. That said, the widgit you need sounds like a dealer-only part; you might try calling Phil directly and seeing if he can order it for you. Otherwise, it's junkyard searching time.

Hopefully, you're not trying to start that 75 by turning the key, cause that'l never work. I have seen parking lot jockeys and used car salesmen try to do that. It's kinda fun to watch.

I'm exclusively a 123 guy, but this is for a friend of mine. The car is at the local mechanic's place (knows it inside out and has an identical one). He merely put me on the part search to save cash for the friend.

I'll try to call Phil and see what I can drum up.

Thanks for the replies

Don

By the way, I was absolutely persuaded by the forum member who posted the line of reasoning, that since diesels do in fact ignite (even though the ignition source is not electricity), that it is indeed an ignition switch. The switch stops ignition by stopping the fuel rather than stopping the electricity.

Argument settled!

Thanks Kerry:

I always get a kick out of the semantic game, but with the 'well read' Kerry on one's side, who needs another proof?

1975 240D ignition

I think that I have two of them around, one used and one that is still in the factory bag. Let me know if you want one.

Thanks

Question What happened

Don, did you make contact.
Please don't leave this thread hanging!

A picture of the new part would be very nice.
