Get the proper size for your car. Any discount auto parts store will sell the proper battery for your unit.

Many won't even carry a group 49 battery. The demand is not there.

how do you determin what "group" of battery you have? Mine doesnt fit exactly in my case (2" too short)

This is also the biggest baddest battery on the shelf at the local batterys plus, thats not too big
thanks alot

Have the store look it up. I know the Interstate book went back to 1976.

The 240D came with a group 49 Duralast in it and when it finally gave up(didn't really-- the alternator lost it's lower bolt and it kept needing charged-- it was me throwing a part at a nonextant problem, basically) I replaced that Duralast with another.

The battery had a sticker stating that it had been manufacured in march of 2000 on the back side. Seeing as I've had a few instances of crazy electrical problems-- alternator is on its 3rd lower bolt, bad regulator, diesel newbie who bought a car in winter(and the battery was dead then, even) I say that's about as good as you're going to do with a 70 dollar battery.

Better can be had, but it also costs more.

Did I mention that that old Duralast still held a charge, but that I replaced it mistakenly thinking that it wasn't taking a charge from the alternator? It wasn't, but it was because the alternator wasn't charging:P

Ahh-- cluelessness.. Priceless, isn't it?

I replaced the battery on my car a couple of weeks ago. I got one of the Duralast 49 series batteries. Seems to work fine. Cost me about 60 bucks at Autozoo. Its better than spending $115 at NTB or Sears....

Winter reminder

Winter wrecks more weak old batteries than any other single cause.

AutoZone group 49

Get them to order you a fresh one.

Or at least get the one in the back of the rack.

Newer is definitely better

There is a little circular green sticker on their batteries with the date code on it.

I found one that was six months old in the front of the rack, the one in the back was only one month old.

By the way battery prices have gone up in the past two/three years. Like 20-30$

We have used Interstate Megatron 850's in our three diesels for many years and I assure you they are worth the difference in price . I just picked up one for our '87 300TD to replace one that's been in the car for 7-8 years, this cold snap here in Houston finally finished it off. I paid $135 for it and don't think that's unreasonable if it lasts 7-8 years like the last one.

Still waiting on the MB battery in the E300 to go out. From the paperwork I got with the car when I bought it "Starmarked" in 2003, it's the original battery they installed in 1999.

Exchanged an old Wal-Mart Everstart Maxx the other day and noticed their battery prices had gone up $10 across the board.

New Sam's Club openned up last week and their "Energizer" brand batteries are what the old Wal-Mart prices were.

The MB battery is a Group 49 and goes for $77 plus tax with a 3 year free replacement. All my other cars have Wally World batteries and have given plenty of warning when they were getting weak.

I had two old Autozone diesel batteries go bad a week or so ago. When I took them over to be tested I asked how old they were....they were the seven year ones.....both were ten years old.;)

I have been using them for about twenty years now. Before that I used sears. The new one I bought this time cost me over a hundred bucks so they have gone up.

I just topped off the white MB battery thats in my car with some distilled water before going for a very long drive as it seemed a little low in some cells.

Its starting like new after that, But Im pretty sure this battery is very old, the part no. sticker which shows CA is worn out, the only sticker remaining says made in spain.
