This thread is a continuation of this thread:
Engine going south??? Jimmy, you should read the thread on injectors and nozzles made in india. Search: india nozzle There is a good chance that if you took those rebuilt injectors to another shop for a free test they would tell you they need to be rebuilt again. I say run a compression check, if your compression is not good you are throwing good money, effort, hope, after bad. I bought a cheapo compression tester for $50 and a used good one for $30. I will combine the two as needed. Don't throw money at the problem. |

PC = Precombustion Chamber
The part you see below the glow plug in the PC is the ball pin. Not too sure the purpose of that thing but, as long as they aren't loose and rattling around inside the PC, they're OK. White, 'raw' diesel smoke almost has to be a fuel-related issue. Are you still getting white smoke after replacing the injectors? FWIW, twice since owning my cars, I've come across what I suspect was some really crappy diesel fuel. The symptoms were slow idle, bad, bad off-idle performance and, intermittently, HUGE clouds of black smoke. I dosed the tank with Power Servce both times but it literally took 3-4 tanks of fuel for the symptoms to completely subside. Mind you, this was diesel from a pump that caused this baloney, not some of the other concoctions that I've run through Marlene. So, if you haven't already done this, I suggest you go drive the car for 50-100 miles and see what happens. And, make absolutely sure you have good fuel; you might go ahead and run an additive like PowerService too.

You also could fill the filter with transmission fluid or something and see if it smokes while it is running on something other than diesel. This would not be an exact test and may not prove anything. |

Headache from the smoke...
Those were rather timely posts. Slow work day so far, so this morning I went and got some diesel from another station. I used my diesel purge bottle, poured some diesel in it, and ran the car from that. Still is smoking like a frieght train. White smoke, not black. One thing has me worried, though. Now, I'm not so sure that the smoke has a diesel smell.
What a can of worms that opens up. I'm going to see if my spousal apparatis will give me a second opinion this evening, as I have profound smelling loss. What has me rather confused also, is that a couple of weeks ago, when I was running the Lubimoly diesel purge, it was NOT smoking. That is why I went and got other fuel this morning. I gave it time to run out of fuel already in filters and line, and it ran a full mason jar of the fresh diesel, no change. I guess when you get to a certain point, the car just needs to be looked at by a professional. I've just got to pay for the injectors first, and wait until that is financially feesible. I hope yall know how much I appreciate all the help and ideas. I've got too much in the car to just unload it. (way too much now). Jimmy

Have you tried running it on biodiesel? I was amazed at the difference after mixing in about half a tank. I had to change filters a couple of times afterwards.
I agree that this definitely sounds like a fuel problem from your description. An inexpensive test of rigging up a 5 gal. can, with biodiesel, and a couple of fuel lines would be good to try. Sometimes crappy fuel can really cause a lot of headaches! Persistant ones at that.

Sounds like your diesel is allergic to diesel fuel? LOL But with this test you did eliminate the engine as a culprit. My thinking is that there is water in the fuel and how unlikely it may sound you might have had the same problem with the different service station. Unless there are additives in the diesel fuel that would cause this kind of smoking and no additives in the diesel purge? Highly unlikely, so the only cause left is diesel fuel allergy. Louis. |
