Hose In Hose Coolant/Fuel heat exchanger

I tried posting these documents on the Infopp biodiesel forum, but they are limited in the type of document which can be uploaded.
I plan to load it here and refer the forum members here to view it.
I hope it works.

Yup it did. Now to spread the word - Tony

Tony,
Thats one of the better ideas I have seen for making a HIH system. Most require some sort of coaxial hose setups but yours would be easy to do with regular plumbing supplies. RT

I am glad you like the idea. I was faced with the problem of how to fabricate the HIH and didn't think I would be able to ensure a good seal without using the compression fittings. My first one had the compression fitting inside the Tee, with a larger Tee and smaller fuel line (a nylon-like opaque semi-rigid tube). It didn't have the "feed-thru" compression fitting, and relied on a hose barb to connect the external fuel line.
That assembly was:
HIH, Tee, fuel line compression fitting inside tee, adaptor from compression fitting to Tee, hose barb for fuel line. The compression fitting and hose barb for the fuel line were thread sealed and screwed "back to back" in the adaptor, which was screwed into the Tee. Is that description clear??

While it worked well, I struck on the "feed-thru" compression fitting, as the next improvement.
As the copper fuel line is stressed at the compression fitting, there is an increased risk of a fracture occurring at that point. Any fracture is more likely where movement and flexing of the copper can occur. As the copper in the fitting is supported adjacent to the compression olive, (being within the drilled out section of the brass fitting) any fracture which may occur is unlikely to be inside the HIH.

I hope that this design is of use to you..

Aluminium

Tony, thanks for the docs on the HIH.

How is it working out? I've read about guys saying aluminum is better, and then getting the correct type of Al alloy - 3003.

Any feedback from you on this?

Also, how long does the thing have to be? I am in north florida, ie warm - 50-60 during the day in winter.

Thanks

Paul
