Just spoke to PETE and he's in North Carolina. He's been driving for 6 hours straight and has stopped for some coffee and a fill up. He's very excited with his FIRST diesel. He's loving it. He cannot wait to get rid of his new Mustang V8 Convertible (red). Anyway, I'll post pics of our 240Ds. Two best friends driving two best cars in the world.
I'll give another update in a few hours. |
I just spoke to Pete too. He told me he wasn't used to the lack of torque when starting off in 1st gear. When you go from a Mustang GT 5spd to a 240D 4spd you give up A LITTLE POWER! ;)
He's learning fast. He plans to stay the night in Baltimore I think. |
For your future reference, several states, Virginia among them, have a "one-way, one-trip" temporary "tag" you can purchase off the DMV web page - available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Use a credit card to pay (it's only about $5.00). The tag is good for three days from date of purchase, but if you let it expire you can simply get another one. You print it out on your printer and tape it in the rear window. I have used it at least twice, once buying a car in PA and once selling from my residence. I did not want to let the buyer use my tags because it is illegal and would subject me to liability should he crack up on the way home. Other details of the tag are that it must be used to drive a car from Virginia, or to Virginia, and it is only for the direct travel from purchase to your residence (without deviation!). Finally, you must have insurance and a bill of sale signed by the seller in your possession. Most insurance companies will allow you up to 30 days to notify them of a purchase of an additional car on you policy. If you do not already have a car or existing insurance you can get that through the DMV site as well - for about an additional $45 or so. All other states must recognize it under the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

Great post
Thanks for the info. I have used the DMV pages you mentioned and they are indeed very helpful.
In the future I will see that a little more "official" pre-registration is made available. |
He made it back to Jersey at exactly 2:30AM. He didn't go all the way to his house but he stopped at his girlfriends dorm room. I guess all that diesel did something to him.... :D
Many pictures coming in a day or two... |
