Broken 300SD passenger mirror
My 15 year old son decided to be clumsy and bang into the right side mirror of my 84 300SD. This idiocy, which he gets from his mother's side of the family, snapped the little base eyelet that holds the spring at the bottom of the mirror assembly. Now, I have a mirror that simply hangs off the side of the car. Very attractive.
Has anyone ever fixed one these, or is a whole new mirror assembly needed? |

I did the exact same thing backing the SD out of the garage. The mirror just tapped the trim on the door. The mirror is designed to bend rearward, however, forward is out of the question.
The mounting base is a very cheap aluminum and I am quite sure that you cracked it. The best solution is to find a replacement on e-bay. It took me a couple of months but I did get a decent one for about $60. R&R of the mirror is a 15 minute job. |

I just walked out to the garage, and the mirrors on my "81 SD breakaway both forward and backward. I've repaired the passenger's side once, and replaced it once. r&r is about 5 minutes. There is alot of pot metal in there. Depending on the break you could repair it with (eek!) JB Weld. Good luck.

I did the same thing to my mirror backing out of the garage today. Does anybody know what the part number is for this Passenger side mirror on a 1983 300SD? Can I get a mirror off only this year or do other years match as well?

For all the good its going to do, an unheated passenger side mirror is part #126 810 42 16.
Good for most 126 bodies, year no difference.
