Wow that sucks But look at it this way rebuilt transmissions run around $1,200 not to bad. My trans will need to come out eventually to fix a leak it doesn't look like a real difficult job. If your planning on keeping the car I would have the trans rebuilt, I don't trust used parts. I'm afraid of buying someone else's problem. If you can afford not to have the car for awhile, didn't you say a few weeks ago that you wanted to learn how to rebuild a trans? Fastlane has all of the parts...

see if there is an access port to the tranny under the carpet on the passenger side tranny tunnel. if there is, the port hole to the B2 piston is right there.
if you dont have a port hole, take out the four bolts of the tranny bracket and lower the tranny with a jack.
open up the cover over the B2 piston and see if it is in pieces. clean everything first.

im pretty sure its a broken b2 piston. i just pulled the piston out and it is broken. would it be easier to install the new one with the tranny out. if so wouldnt this be a good time to replace the oil filter housing gasket. thank you all for all of your help.

yes it is the problem. i just looked at a pic of a new one and mine is in about 6 pieces. i found the new one for $90. i have heard that it would be a good idea to replace the cylinder with a plastic one so it doesnt bind up. i cannot find this part anywhere. does anyone have a part # for it. thanks for all the help.

also there are two more covers like the one the b2 was behind. i know one of them is the b1 but what is the other. the b1 is for reverse right? when i first started posting on this forum i was asking why my car seemed like it started in second every time. could the new b2 solve my problem?

Your vehicle starts in second by design, supposed to keep it from being so jumpy out of the blocks I guess.
Be sure to get all of that metal out of the trans from the broken B2B. It will send crap all over, you could still lose the tranny. Think of the expensive pump in there.
Oh well. might as well try and save the $1200 now, might work, but I am not so sure.

Diesels don't start in 2nd, I think only the 300SEL does.

trans-x is an aditive that you add to the tranny. it helps dissolve the varnish and crap that cloggs the valve bodies. when things get varnished up it starts to shift badly and takes a long time to shift into gears.
