My freinds E300D has 147k on it, W210's seem to be holding up well. btw I found a station in New Haven that sells biodiesel! It is a comercial station their isn't even anyone their! It is all electronic. I'm hopeing next week I can stop buy and see if I can open an account. I saw a VW TDI their the other day so maybe I will have some luck. |
I like the idea of having some wine in the trunk along with blankets and warm clothes. ;)
I will purposly break down everytime I have a hot girl in my car. |

Anyone know proper placement? |
the badges are for 250000km, 500000km and 1000000km. Hatterasguy, where is the biodiesel station in New Haven?
|
Pete Burton if your heading north on I-95 get off as exit 44 Kimberly Ave. When you get off, get into the left hand lane and turn left at the first light.(about 100 yards) The street name is Elgrasso Bulivard(sp?) or something like that. The biodiesel station is less than 1 miles down on your left hand side. I drive pass it a few times a day on my way to school, mostly large trucks seem to use it, they might no be interested in selling to me.
btw go during the day, it is New Haven and it is not the best area. |
I have a '79 300D that doesn't seem to have a block heater. I have seen them offered for this year various places on the web including this site. Question is..where do you install it on the engine? The picture blow ups of the block heater kits show a threaded or screw in installation. Is the install difficult?

Try to find Mil ones that have the heaters in them (I have a few cases, but can't ship them - now considered hazmat.) |

:o Once I verify that the one I have works, I will happily sell this one. |
Block heaters are pretty easy to install. The problem is getting the threaded plug loose and out of the block. If you don't have a turbo, it's not too bad, but probably no picnic either. I removed mine when the block was bare :D It takes a big allen wrench and some good muscle. A lift would be the way to go with this job. If it's really snug, get it on the lift before you strip the allen wrench part

install that baby before the winter comes...

In Alberta we can get -40 weather and so I use 0W40 synthetic Diesel oil (Esso XD3 $4.50/litre) and make sure the battery posts are very clean and the block heater works. All the other fluids need to be checked as well.

Hatterasguy, thanks for the biodiesel info. I'll have to give it a try sometime soon. As New haven goes, that area isn't too bad. BTW, that's Ella Grasso Boulevard, named after Ella Grasso, past governor of CT who was admired by many on both sides of every issue.

Didn't know that, I guess you learn a new thing everyday!

So far I tried the Global DieselOne in Glastonbury and my engine knocks almost none on startup. Other than that no noticeable difference. I thought this stuff was supposed to be clear. It was still yellow like regular diesel. http://pages.cthome.net/michakaveli/155K_E300.jpg |
hehehe..........
