Any surplus shops near hollywood?
ey guys,
i wanted to post this here coz i think diesel people are the more "sensible",kind ones out there. :) anyway, i'm gonna be attending a seminar in hollywood in November. This is gonna be my first trip to the US. Are there any junkyards or surplus shops nearby that specialize in benzes? thanks |
Absolutely. http://www.mercedesdismantlers.com/
The pictures on their web page do not do their inventory justice. What you see on the web page is just one of three vehicle storage areas. I went by myself on a business trip. The owner let me look around. They've got loads of strictly MB's. |
There are some Benz specialized junk yards close to Hollywood: mercedesdismantlersin the Valley is a good one and then there is Performance products also in the Valley right of the 405.
There are many more Benz specialized junk yards, mostly in the valley. You won't see more old Benz's then in Los Angeles. |
To the south - one on Alameda about 2mi. north of the 105

Your profile doesn't say but where are you coming from?

thanks for the heads up people!
i'm coming all the way from the philippines! :) |

But what do you do on your first visit? Go to a M/B junkyard, of course. Gotta love it. :D :D :D :D p.s.: That front bumper under your right arm is not going to go over very well with the new Federal airport screeners. :D |
www.mercedesdismantlers.com is certainly one of the more popular yards AND I would call it a junk yard. It isn't very well organized.
However the prices are fair. The inventory is pretty good. Mark is the owner and he or Peter are helpful. They also rebuild transmissions in house HOWEVER after seeing their shop and visiting Transmeister in Orange CA, there is NO comparison. Transmeister runs almost a clean room compared to Sun Valley Mercedes Dismantlers. AMC Auto Salvage in Wilmington is more organized, however their inventory of good 123 parts is pretty tattered. The cars are unprotected and most have been picked over pretty well. Prices are generally higher than SVMD. Neither place has a good inventory of GOOD interior parts. |
i finally got my visa!
my wife and i will be leaving on oct 30, we'll be in san francisco the first week of november, then we'll head on over to anaheim, where she'll be attending a conference for 4 days, i won't be doing anything at this time so i'm thinking of visiting some benz junkyards, then we'll head on over to hollywood where i plan on visiting sun valley mervedes dismantlers... anyway, any shops in anaheim? brian, my wife wants to go to all the places you mentioned, but i'm reserving a day at the junkyard for my "alone time" har har har |

Still, their rebuilt transmissions seem to work fine, and they even lent me a car once when I got stuck down there! |
Hollywood CA or Hollywoood FL? Hollywood FL has three yards with a great number of MB's that you pull parts from. Tons cheaper than CA and since it's inbetween Miami and Palm Beach the $ is here
|
At Sun Valley Mercedes Dismantlers, next to there entrance, there is a letter hanging at the wall from one of Sadams son's looking for some parts for his Mercedes.
