LOL...The bug would be very lucky to climb the standard 32% grade used by the auto manufacturers. It is "only" 18 degrees, but it certainly "feels" like 45 degrees when you climb it.

Oh yeah...they do a dandy job. They are pretty neat little cars...will go through pretty deep snow, over just about anything you throw at them, etc. Sometimes power isn't all that matters when it comes to leaving the road
I think the top speed I have had in my bug is 85-90...but you are watching the road as that car gets moved around by the wind and ruts a LOT.
They do alright for themselves...I would rather take one of those cars than most modern SUV's into the wild...
Probably becuase I know exactly what parts are in my car, what could break, what won't, etc.
I'll see if I can dig up some pictures of where my car has been

Um... it'd have to be a big oil bath air filter on a car with a turbo. And that basket full of steel wool isn't easy to clean if you don't check and clean the pan and get gunk into the basket. But they are my filter of choice for the simple engines.

True. Lack of power is a plus in the smow. And there is far less to break down and leave you stranded. And lots of what can go wrong can be Jerry rigged along the road to get you home. Unlike a Dead electronic ignition.
